The Power of Tribes

The Power of TribesWe are very pleased to have Matt Genovese, of Door64, Craig Foster, of the Austin Job Seekers’ Network, and Alex Jones, of RefreshAustin, to lead our “Power of Tribes” learning session at the January 29th CareerConnects event.

If you’ve ever read Seth Godin’s book, Tribes: We Need You to Lead Us, you understand the power that a group of like-minded individuals can wield. From Linkedin groups to Yahoo groups, to local associations and organizations, the tribe takes on many forms.

Using Godin’s book as inspiration (sorry, no book reviews), we are asking group leaders from the Austin area to participate in the learning session as well. You’ll have 2 minutes to speak about your tribe, the goals or mission, who should join, and the benefits.

Want your 2 minutes?  Simply comment here with your name, your group name and your contact info and we’ll confirm your participation.

Group name is Lean Austin. (For an understanding of Lean/Continuous improvement take a look at the Wikipedia entry)

The group is a Linked in group.

Teaching what we know and learning as we go.
I was thinking of a lean happy hour to start with. Kinda like the high tech happy hour.

I thought of contacting everyone on linked in from a search for Lean, Six Sigma Kaizen, Quality. If you got enough of the like minded people in a room talking and drinking beer, you would get a spark.

I am contemplating a broader vision of lean. My wife is a scrum master which is a lean philosophy for software development. I contemplated having events where we had our meeting after theirs in the same room or next door.

Please share your thoughts on cross pollination??????

Perhaps making an effort to involve things that are not what we typically think of as lean but could benefit as well. Things like restaurants, film, service industries etc.

Nonprofits in particular are in need of lean practitioners so that the resources that they have get used effectively. I plan to coordinate with the heads of nonprofits so that there is the proper fit. I fully expect that the members of the group would do the same.

I expect and encourage sister/subgroups to form. This group is intended to be a hub/node to efficiently connect the resources with the need.

I would like the group to have a distinctly Austin feel.

    So YES! please forward.
